Knarzzz! Soundsystem

ich kenne lediglich 2 von 3 knarzzz buben. aber die 2 kenn ich gut und mag ich gern. sehr entspannte zeitgenossen, bestellen gerne pizza oder indisches essen und mögen gerne rock musik. haben aber auch eine affinität zum obskuren. wie zum beispiel das auflegen von einzelnen nummern (so wie ich das als deejaayy mache) und dann aber gleich abmischen mit einem drückenden beat: dem knarrzzzz. die 3 buben legen bei drum n bass festen auf, in ihrem club im gönner oder bei einem kleinen pop event wie dem festkakao in der arena. ein kleiner bruch, der zur späten stunde, zum ausklang des festes, gut tun wird.

i only know 2 out of 3 knarzzz boys. but i know the two quite well and like em. very laid back fellas, who like to order pizza and indian food. they also like rock musik but have an affinity for obcure things. like playing songs (the way i do as a deejaayy) and mixing a drowning beat onto it – the knarrzzzz. the 3 boys DJ at drum n bass parties, at their hostet club at elektro gönner or at litte pop events such as the festkakao at the arena. a little breach late night that will give the fest its final note.

Sissyboy

Oder auch Sissiboy, wie es manche Menschen wie ich falsch (?) schreiben. Hinter Sissyboy versteckt sich als DJ genie der gute Holger: Fettkakao Nachbar, Popexperte und guter Freund. Sissyboy ist einer der besten, weil unkonventionellsten DJs in Wien; Zusammen mit Nicola betreibt Holger das remix Projekt nervenerve, die schon tolle Remixes von uA Brooke’s Bedroom, Dandies And Darlings, Pursuit Mode und A Thousand Fuegos hervorgezaubert haben. am 4. September legt Sissyboy mit Drehli Robnik auf – eines der besten DJ Teams der Stadt!

Or Sissiboy, as some people like me write it wrong.  Behind the Sissyboy moniker great DJ Holger is discuising: Fettkakao neighbor, popexpert and good friend. Sissyboy is one of the best disc jockeys in town – because he has a very unconventional style. Together with friend Nicoleta Holger is running a remix project called nervenerve, that made fantasitc remixes of songs by acts like Brooke’s Bedroom, Dandies And Darlings, Pursuit Mode and A Thousand Fuegos. On September 4th, Sissyboy will DJ with Drehli Robnik – together they’re one of the best DJ teams in Vienna.

Drehli Robnik

Drehli Robnik ist uns Popkultur Kindern aus Wien wohlbekannt. Da gab es das Soft Egg Café in den 1990ern, vielleicht länger… ich habe das erste mal davon wind bekommen bei einem Tocotronic „Geheimkonzert“,  ich glaube 1997 oder 1998 (??) im Flex. Da lief kurz vor Konzert anfang Kurt Sowinetz (der ja vorzüglich zum ihm passt).  Drehli fiel gleich auf; mir zumindest: Er hatte soetwas vertrautes aus den 1980er Jahren der TV Moderation. und auch einen leicht „intellektuellen“ Antlitz (er ist ja im zivilen Leben Historiker, Filmwissenschaftler und Universitätslehrkraft) . Das was mir ja durch und durch fehlt (wie ich immer nach Worten schnappe, sie falsch schreibe, dass-das Fehler mache).  Sein neuer Club ((PoPo)) zeigt immer die interessantesten Künstler_innen aus Wien. Ja, richtig. Ilsebill durften da gleich mal spielen, Brooke’s Bedroom hat seine Release Show im ((PoPo)) Club letzten Mai gegeben, Jetzt tritt Drehli mit Fatal Kiss (der FFK Band ohne Maria, weil die jetzt Mama geworden ist) am Bass im Fluc, auch im zuge des ((PoPo))s, auf. Cool das der fettkakao teil des clubs wird, oder festkakao – und schlicht und einfach FeTt ((PoPo)) oder gar ((FeTtPoPo)) werden darf. …oder eher doch ((FeStPoPo)).

for us Popculture Kids in Vienna Drehli Robnik is well known. there was the Soft Egg Café in the 1990ies, maybe longer… i was first introdued to it at a Tocotronic „Secret Show“,  in 1997 or 1998 at the Flex i think. right before the show a Kurt Sowinetz (who fits perfectly to DR) song was playing.  i noticed Drehli right away. he had s/t familiar – that reminded me of 1980ies austrian TV hosts . he also has an intellectual face (sure, in civil life he is an external lecturer in film theory and analysis at University of Vienna – Dept. of Theater, Film and Media Studies; Dept. of History). the one thing that i lack of  completely (i’m always ringing for words, dont know how to use them and make so many gramatical mistakes). his new Club: ((PoPo)) shows the most interesting artistes from Vienna. yes yes –  Ilsebill had a show there right away, Brooke’s Bedroom was allowed to pesent his new 7″ last may at the ((PoPo)) Club too. Now Drehli gets on stage w/ Fatal Kiss (without / or replacing FFK Band’s Maria, because she just became mother!) on Bass at the Fluc – which is also part of the ((PoPo)). great the the fettkakao or  more likely the festkakao -joins the club, for an evening and appears now as FeTt ((PoPo)) or even ((FeTtPoPo))…. or really: ((FeStPoPo)).

Vortex Rex

Vortex Rex (fettkakao, seayou)
Vortex Rex befindet sich schon lange in einem Triotischen zustand, der VRex auch richtig gut steht. Ich poche immer drauf das sie gefälligst ihre neuen Lieder aufnehmen sollen – weil Nummern wie Polaroid nach einem Konzert nicht mehr aus dem Ohr gehen wollen. Was mit Rudi seinem ROFL Label ist frag ich mich auch – dann wäre bad mal eine schnelle Single in sicht. Ansonsten steht ein Album auf seayou an. Ob es wirklich Natural Style heißen wird, weiß aber Ilias selber nicht mehr.

Vortex Rex are in a triotistic condition for a while now, which fits the VRex really well. I insist on the fact that they should finally record their new songs – becaus hits like polariod wont leave my head after a show of theirs. and what is happening with rudi’s ROFL label? if he’d done it  a single would be in sight soon. apart from that an album is to be released on seayou still. if it is going to be called natural style isnt even sure yet, ilias says.

Brooke’s Bedroom

Brooke’s Bedroom (fettkakao)
you dance to disco and you dont like rock. Das kann ma Martin Pieper – Mastermind hinter Brooke’s Bedroom – nicht vorwerfen. BB ist voller Schönverpackter Weisheiten – die ma am ersten blick nicht sieht, oder hört. Die letzte 7“ – albino rabbits ist so ein schillerndes Teil, das vielleicht noch ein wenig mehr Beachtung verdienen würde.

you dance to disco and you dont like rock. you can’t say this about Martin Pieper – Mastermind behind Brooke’s Bedroom . BB is full of beautifully packed  wisdom – which you wouldnt notice at first sight – or listening. the last 7“ – albino rabbits is such a dazzling piece, that deserves a little more attention.

Sex Jams

Sex Jams (fettkakao, noise appeal, siluh)
Die wohl umtriebigste Wiener Band gerade. Wenn sie nicht touren dann nehmen sie auf oder gehen schwimmen und drehen dabei noch ein Video. Ihr Erstlingswerk war eine 7“ auf fettkakao, dann kam ein split Release mit noise appeal, dann eine LP auf noise appeal, und jetzt wird diese LP – zeitgerecht zur festwoche – auf siluh erscheinen. Verrückt. Aber auch genau richtig. Ebenfalls zum festkakao kommt ihre split 7“ mit Les Trucs, wo sie mehr nach No Age klingen wollen als nach Sonic Youth. Aber wir hören ja eh immer raus was wir raushören wollen. Achja. Und aufgenommen hat Wolfi von den Killed By Nine Volt Batteries. und nachdem er auch brav das duet mit Kati eingesungen hat, scheint er schon fix das 5. Bandmitglied zu sein.

one of the most active viennese bands at the moment. if they are not on tour then they are to be found in the studio or swiming at a lake while shooting a video. Sex Jams first release was a 7“ on fettkakao, then came a split release w/ noise appeal, then a whole LP also on noise appeal, and now that LP –  just in time for the fest–  will be released as a CD on siluh. Crazy. but absolutely right. also for the festkakao comes a split 7“ w/ the great Les Trucs (released on fettkakao of course!). SJ want to sound more like No Age than Sonic Youth on that one. but we always hear what we want to hear. oh. and it was recorded by Wolfi of  Killed By Nine Volt Batteries. after he sang a duet w/ Kati, he seems to be the 5th bandmember already.

Spoenk

Spoenk (fettkakao)
Das Duo wird viellen bereits ein Begriff sein. 2006 ist Hard To Mend (fett006) auf FKK erschienen, viele Konzerte folgten (ua. m/ Partyline, Joe Lally, Candelilla). In den Detzten Jahren ist es etwas leiser geworden um Spoenk – das lag sicher an Dandies And Darlings, die Band der sowohl Lisa als auch Claudia teil waren. Jetzt spielen sie vermehrt Konzerte und werden sicherlich die eine oder andere Kooperation mit Musiker_innen eingehen.

the duo is – i guess – known to a lot of people already . Hard To Mend (fett006) was released 2006 on FKK, a lot of shows came after  ( w/ Partyline, Joe Lally, Candelilla..). it cooled off in the last three years – one of the reasons was propably Dandies And Darlings, a band in which Lisa and Claudia participated. now they play more shows and will do one or another cooperation with artistes around them too.

Les Trucs

Les Trucs (Zeitstrafe)
Tobi und Charlotte machen dieses Ding mit Keyboarden und lustigen Dingern am Kopf. Sie singen über nette Tiere (Waal, Gorilla, Elephant) und machen extrem harte Musik dazu welche eigentlich klassik stücke sein könnten – halt mit Synthies und harten Beats. Zur festkakaowoche erscheint die split 7“ mit Sex Jams auf fettkakao! Piep Piep.

Tobi and Charlotte do this thing with keyboards and funny things on their heads. they sing about nice animals (Waal, Gorilla, Elephant) and play really hard music to it. which could be classic songs actually – but with synthezisers and hard beats. the split 7“ with Sex Jams will be released just in time for the fest … of course on fettkakao! Piep Piep.

Räuberhöhle

Räuberhöhle (megapeng)
Krawalla ist schon ein alt bekanntes Familienmitglied des Labels. Nicht nur der Label Name ist auf ihren (und Lisa Max) Mist gewachsen, sie hat es auch miteingeweiht 2005, bei der ersten Label Nacht im EKH.
Krawalla tritt mit allen möglichen Tieren auf. Am liebsten mit einem Bären – Bärchin– um gegen verrückt gewordene Deutsche Deutschlandfans oder einbrechende Polizisten anzukämpfen. Ihr letztes Album – Deep In The Forest – ist ein monumentales Werk das ich allen Nahe legen möchte.

Krawalla belongs to the label family for a long time now too. not only is the label name her (and Lisa Max) invention, she was part of the inauguration at the first label night at the EKH. Krawalla enters the stage with all sorts of animals. preferably with a bear – bärchin – to fight against german germany fans or cops that are breaking in. her last record – Deep In The Forest – is a monumental piece of  work that i want to recomend to everyone.

Mon Insomnie

Mon Insomnie (wonder beard)

tomas macht diese wirklich wunderfolle one man show – mit seiner gitarre und einem laptop. ich habe so eine ehrliche und berührende show schon lange nicht mehr gesehen wie im weird kong club vom siluh bernhard. das lässt keinen kalt. tomas ist auserdem einer der freundlichsten und vernetzendenstenden personen, mit einem guten musikgeschmack und einer (meiner meinung nach) guten weltanschauung. ich freu mich schon richtig auf das konzert im rhiz.

tomas does this great one man show with his laptop, guitar and heart. haven’t seen an intense and honest show like his at the weird kong club in a long time. this wont leave you cold. In fact. He is one of the most friendly and networkish guys, with a real good taste in music and a (in my opion) blend worldview. Really looking foreward to his appearance at the rhiz in vienna.
